More than half of Aldine home sales and almost three-quarters of North Forest’s sales are foreclosures these days, and that’s affecting how much you pay in taxes.

The Houston Chronicle’s Cindy Horswell reports that a new state law mandates that foreclosures be included in tax appraisals, and that’s having a greater impact in some parts of the Houston area than in others.

The Harris County Central Appraisal District has come up with these foreclosure rates over the last 20 months:
North Forest: 73 percent
Aldine: 58 percent
Spring: 48 percent
Channelview: 47 percent
Alief: 43 percent
Pasadena: 35 percent
Cy-Fair: 27 percent
Houston: 19 percent
Humble: 19 percent
Clear Creek: 9 percent
Spring Branch: 8 percent
Pearland: 5 percent

Nationwide, the foreclosure rate is 26 percent, and then there are all those struggling to make that mortgage payment.

The Associated Press reports:
One in 10 households has missed at least one mortgage payment, and more than 2 million homes have been repossessed since the recession began. Few expect the outlook to improve until companies start to hire steadily again and layoffs ease.
