Sixty-six Aldine ISD graduating seniors received the chance to continue their academic careers in college when they were awarded Aldine Scholarship Foundation (ASF) scholarships during a ceremony held in their honor on Thursday, May 20 at the M.O. Campbell Educational Center.
Since its inception in 1991, ASF has awarded 761 scholarships to deserving AISD seniors.
Prior to receiving their scholarships, the students were addressed by Lone Star College-North Harris President Dr. Steve Head, Aldine ISD Superintendent Dr. Wanda Bamberg and 2009 ASF recipient Alex Muniz. Seth Sharr, president of ASF, served as the master of ceremonies for the evening. Dr. Bennie Lambert of Lone Star College-North Harris presented the students with their scholarships.
ASF is a non-profit organization consisting of business people, educators and members of Aldine ISD and Lone Star College-North Harris. Donations collected are invested and placed in certificates of investment with the principle remaining perpetually untouched. All investment proceeds are used to pay college tuition for AISD graduates to attend any school in the Lone Star College system.
