Dear Aldine Community,

We have been closely monitoring the weather. While Marco turned east, Laura intensified overnight from a tropical storm to a Category 1 hurricane as it entered the Gulf of Mexico. The National Hurricane Center’s latest track has it making landfall possibly as a Category 3 hurricane sometime Wednesday into Thursday along the western Louisiana coast or East Texas coastline.

Current models project Galveston and Houston in Laura’s path. A mandatory evacuation has been put in place for Galveston.

Due to anticipated high winds, rain, and storm surges, we expect that school functions will be interrupted.

Out of an abundance of caution and everyone’s safety, the school district will close from Wednesday, August 26 through Friday, August 28. This includes the cancellation of all curbside meal service distributions. The district will not hold any virtual classes or activities during this time. Students will not be required to log into Schoology Wednesday-Friday for attendance purposes; however, students may log in to complete classwork that was previously assigned.

The district’s operations team is working closely with the Aldine Police Department to assess and ensure facility readiness.

All buildings and school campuses will be closed.

Please prepare with necessities and a plan in the event Laura reaches the Houston area. Please follow all city and county officials’ guidance and anticipate heavy rain, power outages, and flooding. Secure a safe place to shelter and prepare emergency supplies for family members and pets.

To ensure you receive the most updated information, please update your contact information via Home Access Center (HAC). If you need to create an account, visit our HAC web page. Additionally, bookmark AldineISD.org.

The district will communicate updates and changes as they arise via our district website, social media channels, and our mass notification system, Blackboard Connect. I encourage you to stay alert and informed. Below are links for additional information regarding the weather.

As always, please reach out to your Aldine family with questions or concerns. Please stay safe and healthy.

With Aldine Pride,
