On Wednesday May 12, 2010, the National Center for Safe Routes to School and the Houston-Galveston Area Council will host a free SRTS Training Workshop at Aldine ISD’s Reed Academy, located at 1616 Lauder Road, Houston, TX 77039, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The workshop is intended to educate school districts, local jurisdictions, and community groups in the region about the SRTS program, and provide information and strategies for potential applicants to effectively apply for SRTS funding.

The SRTS program provides funding to schools for the construction or improvement of physical infrastructure and public outreach efforts to encourage children to safely walk or bike to school. The goals of the program are to help reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality, and encourage physical activity among school-age children. For additional information about the SRTS program please visit the Safe Routes Texas website at www.saferoutestx.org.

Here is a flyer that summarizes the workshop and contains a location map and additional contact information.

Due to limited space availability, the workshop will be limited to 30-40 participants. Attendance will be on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are interested in attending the workshop,
