Today is National Census Day!

While it is also April Fool’s Day, the Census is no joke! Commissioner Garcia has asked us all to spread the word of the Census to our Precinct 2 Community Leaders, to which I ask you to then share with your community members.

As you probably already know by now, how well our communities respond to the 2020 Census will decide many things, like the allocation of federal funding for federal programs in our area that impact hospitals and healthcare, schools, communities, as well as Congressional representation and data valuable to help businesses, governments, non-profits, and other organizations make future decisions.

Due to the Coronavirus, the Census Bureau has extended this year’s response period to end on August 14th instead of July 31st, so while we still have some time to make sure 100% of our communities have submitted their household’s Census questionnaires, the future can be fickle and as such, we’re encouraging everybody to fill their Census out before summer begins (June)!

If you could take a second or two, it’s real easy – just copy and paste the below (in your choice of English, Spanish, or both) and share everywhere you would like to! Given the hashtags and emojis, it seems made for social media but email and other forms of communication also should work too.

English

It’s #NationalCensusDay! While the Census continues to make adjustments based on the coronavirus outbreak, it is important to remember that you can complete the Census online from the safety of your home by going to My2020Census.gov. Filling out the #2020Census is quick, easy, safe, and ensures that all of us are counted. #YestotheCensus #EverybodyCounts
