The East Aldine Town Center’s Labyrinth is a true labor of love. In December 2022, the East Aldine community came together to dig and build it by hand. This medieval 5-circuit unicursal design was built using surplus bricks and pavers from the original East Aldine Town Center complex, making it not only a place of reflection but also a testament to the community’s resourcefulness and spirit.
For centuries, labyrinths have served as spaces for contemplation, meditation, and self-centering. The Town Center’s Labyrinth continues that tradition, offering a quiet retreat from the distractions of daily life. As you walk its winding path, you are invited to focus your mind, body, and spirit, fostering a deep sense of peace and introspection.
Walking the labyrinth can be a calming and centering experience, providing a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life. There are many designs, one of the most famous being the labyrinth in the Saint Chartres Cathedral in France. However, there are countless labyrinths worldwide in various shapes and sizes. The Town Center labyrinth’s specific style is considered a “rambling rose” motif. What makes this design unique is how close you get to the center before making your way around the entire path and finally reaching the labyrinth’s inner circle.
The district’s labyrinth is dedicated to the residents of East Aldine. It symbolizes the Town Center as the heart of the community for generations to come.
The East Aldine Management District is deeply grateful to those who made the Town Center labyrinth a reality for all of us to enjoy. A special thank-you goes to Baker Ripley, the East Aldine Arts Council, Jay Stailey, our community residents and volunteers, and SMC Landscape. Your support and contributions have brought this beautiful structure to life and enriched our community spirit.
