Phase 1 of the Lauder Road Basin Hike and Bike Trail was recently completed. Originally designed to manage stormwater and reduce flooding, the Lauder Stormwater Detention Basin now also serves as a recreational space for walking, biking, and running. This dual-purpose project enhances both public safety and quality of life, benefiting the East Aldine District, nearby neighborhoods like Castlewood, Fairgreen, and High Meadows, as well as local schools.
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, key speakers—including Commissioner Adrian Garcia, Executive Director Richard Cantu, Harris County Engineer Dr. Milton Rahman, and Jeremy Ratcliff with Harris County Flood Control District—celebrated the trail’s role in enhancing public safety, recreation, and neighborhood connectivity.
It’s a powerful example of how infrastructure can support both resilience and recreation, helping build safer, healthier, and more connected communities.
