East Aldine Management District Supports MacArthur FFA Students Through Livestock Auction Purchase

The East Aldine Management District (EAMD) recently supported MacArthur High School FFA students by purchasing $16,800 in livestock projects at Aldine ISD’s 67th Annual Livestock Show FFA auction.

EAMD Deputy Executive Director Veronica Sanches attended the FFA auction and bid on behalf of the EAMD following board approval to support MacArthur FFA participants. She purchased the Reserved Grand Champion steer, raised by student Alyssa Martínez, for $11,000; the fifth-place market hog for $3,000; and the MacArthur FFA banner for $2,800.

“This was an opportunity to directly support our students while bolstering the importance of agricultural education in East Aldine,” Sanches said. “These projects represent months of dedication, responsibility, and hard work by our students.”

Reflecting on the impact of the support from the EAMD, Martínez, whose steer earned Reserved Grand Champion honors, said the experience affirmed her future plans. She intends to attend East Texas A&M University in Commerce to study agricultural education, with the goal of returning to Aldine to teach agriculture.

“Knowing the community believes in us means everything,” Martínez said. “I’m grateful for the support and excited to continue my journey in agriculture.”

In addition to supporting student scholarships through the auction, EAMD is looking to give back to the community by using the purchased livestock to organize a community barbecue or hot-plate distribution event. The district is finalizing details for this initiative.

Flor Zarzoza, Abel Garza, Bob Beasley, and Sanches, all EAMD board members and staff, attended the event. Their presence demonstrates the district’s continued commitment to investing in students and strengthening the East Aldine community through education-focused initiatives.
