Twenty-five years ago, East Aldine decided to organize itself. A volunteer-led management district, funded by a one-cent sales tax, grew from $800,000 to $15 million, and every cent goes back into the community.
The results are everywhere: a Town Center with a college, community center, and Sheriff’s Office on one site; a $7 million water and sewer project; new sidewalks and greenways; Gateway murals; and the state’s only management district recycling center, which has served 6,000 residents.
The first 25 years took East Aldine from forgotten to thriving. The next 25 are just beginning. East Aldine matters.
